The Parents Television Council yet again gives us good marketing material

Yes, it's that time of year again. Time for the annual PTC "ratings" of network shows.

For those who are unfamiliar with the Parents Television Council, here's how it breaks down:

Theory: A nonprofit organization alerts parents to content in television programs which may be inappropriate for younger viewers.
Actual practice: A bunch of scantimonious morons, assuming that everyone in America has the emotional maturity of a toddler, rant against shows that contain (not condone, simply contain) anything to do with sex, violence or drug use, and "rate" a show based on whether it would offend your grandmother. Not your cool grandmother, the other one.
Irony: Since most people are mature and intelligent enough to enjoy, appreciate and understand television shows more engaging and nuanced than 7th Heaven, the "attacks" wind up being pretty good ad copy.

This year, the PTC had some things to say about my favorite show, Veronica Mars:

This series includes a great deal of sexual content with story lines revolving around cheating husbands and sex-crazed teenagers. In the first episode a high school bully tells Veronica that the only time he cares what a woman has to say is when she is having sex with him. Comments of this nature are common. Violence is rated yellow for this series, because of teen drinking and the occasional gang fights. Language for this series is also rated yellow. Profanity such as “bitch,” “ass,” “piss,” and “hell” is often used.

Now, I ask you, don't you just feel like skipping Lost?
